Wine for people who love it, but don’t get it.
Hi, I’m Kiersten. 👋🏼 Sommelier, writer, and a girl who loves the Internet.
After a decade of writing about food, five of those years focusing specifically on nutrition, I decided to turn my attention toward a new topic. I received a Level 4 Diploma from Le Cordon Bleu London (equivalent to a WSET Level 4) and I’m embarking on a whole new career in the world of wine.
Truthfully, wine always felt a little gate keepy to me. I called myself a wine lover, but I never actually understood what I was buying. The world of wine felt like it was saved for the rich and elite, and many times—like reading a menu, tasting a wine, or even pursuing bottles at a shop—I didn’t feel like I was invited to the party. Why haven’t I heard of these grapes before? Why aren’t any grapes listed? What region is it from? Why does the year matter?
Tired of this mentality, I decided to learn about it myself and get my diploma—then share my “cellar notes” with you.
Cellar Notes is for the wine lovers who love it, but don’t get it. It’s for the people who want to know about the bottle in front of them, from reading a label to ordering with confidence.
What you can expect
As of right now, Cellar Notes is a free publication. Here’s what you can expect:
Wine education: How do I store my wine at home? How do I know if the wine has gone bad? Why doesn’t the label mention a grape?
Food pairings: A mix of general wine pairing guides, and particular recipe and bottles I recommend.
Great wine to buy: Bottles I loved, producers to watch for, and “wine of the week” features
Practical buying tips: Learn how to order/buy that wine with confidence!
Wine travel experiences and recommendations: Regions, vineyards, wine bars, etc.
If this sounds like something you’re looking for, then welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s get you on that list. 👇🏼
