I got a job!

Someone is now paying me to blab on about wine.

It has been a whirlwind week.

When I returned from London, I immediately started looking for jobs. I spent a few days in New York popping into wine bars and shops, handing out resumés and hoping that something would align. I knew trying to break into the world of wine wouldn’t be easy (I don’t have any connections in New York yet), so I gave myself a goal: I’ll try until July to find a job in wine. If nothing turns up, I’ll switch gears.

Then I got an email.

A day later I was on the train, heading to the city for an interview.

I got hired on the spot.

Two days later, I started my job.

It has been a crazy week because A) I’m currently not living in the city. I’m waiting for the lease to start on my new apartment, so I’m in Connecticut until the middle of the month. And B) the shop I was hired at was in the process of opening, and we had less than a week to get things ready for the first day. There have been a lot of lifting cases of wine and stocking shelves. I have bruises up and down my arms from all of the physical labor. And yes, I am happy about it.

The wine shop is connected to Printemps, a luxury retailer that originates from Paris. They have a range of gifts, clothes, and a selection of cafés, restaurants, and bars for customers to enjoy. And now, a wine shop!

The focus of the shop is mostly fine wine. A lot of French wine, of course, but other major wine producing countries as well. The selection is stunning, and so is the inside of the shop. Every single detail of this place was thought out with so much care. It honestly feels like such a privilege to be able to work there.

We opened this week, and I already love being able to talk to customers and recommend wine. We’re hoping to do tastings and events in the future, even giving customers a chance to meet producers spotlighting their cuvées.

Anywho, that is all for now. Big news! Busy on my end. But I’m excited for all the wine I’ll get to learn about and taste, and to share all kinds of fresh knowledge with all of you.
